## Rapid Rebar Estimation Methodologies
In civil estimation practice, engineers often receive architectural General Arrangement (GA) drawings or preliminary structural sizing before complete bar bending schedules are finalized.
Estimators rely on structural density benchmarks (kg of steel per cubic meter of concrete) to estimate total tonnage:
### Standard Reinforcement Densities in Indian Practice:
1. **Raft Foundations:** $80 - 110 \text{ kg/m}^3$
2. **Isolated & Combined Footings:** $70 - 90 \text{ kg/m}^3$
3. **Columns:** $130 - 180 \text{ kg/m}^3$
4. **Beams (Heavy Ductile Framing):** $120 - 150 \text{ kg/m}^3$
5. **Slabs (One-way / Two-way):** $70 - 90 \text{ kg/m}^3$
6. **Retaining Walls / Shear Walls:** $90 - 120 \text{ kg/m}^3$
### Calculating Steel Tonnage from Density:
1. Extract net concrete volume ($V_{cum}$) for each element group.
2. Multiply by the specific element structural steel density factor.
3. Add a standard $5\%$ cutting wastage allowance.
Infrava is designed to read column and beam schedules directly from CAD files, converting structural tables into exact cut lists rather than empirical approximations.
